History
In 1976, Frostemp Western Ltd. was established as a wholesaler of vehicle air conditioning systems and replacement parts. Primary customers were automobile dealerships. In early 1977, Frostemp expanded into retail sales, installation and service, through wholly owned subsidiaries using the trade name AUTOTEMP Air & Sound. Autotemp's expanded product line included car stereos, power windows and locks, cruise controls, automotive security systems, and other convienience and safety features such as in car hands free devices.
On September 1, 1996, Autotemp Inc. purchased the Autotemp assets and Frostemp Inc. purchased the Frostemp Western Ltd. assets. The two companies operate hand-in-hand as they are affiliated with the same ownership and operating personnel.
Today
The six existing Autotemp service centres (three in Calgary, two in Edmonton and one in Red Deer) have operated since 1977. We employ 50 plus employees, many of them have been with the company for 10 years or more.
With the evolution and advancements of factory-equipped options in the automotive market, we have seen a significant shift in our business from the automotive dealer to the retail public.
We specialize in sales and installation of 12-volt automotive "Driving Comfort" accessories. Our mix of products has evolved as new innovative accessories become available for the automotive market. In addition to the previously mentioned mix of products, we now sell, service and install - remote start systems, Bluetooth Hands-Free devices, radar detectors, driving lights, rear seat Video/DVD systems, Global positioning navigation systems as well as Satellite radio products.
Our automotive technicians stay busy all summer long performing repairs on Automotive Air Conditioning systems. In the winter months we sell and install more remote starters than any other independent retailer in Canada. One of our most unusual winter month aftermarket accessory products is Heated Seats.
With the introduction of cellular phones and the features offered such as e-mail, text messaging, on board mp3 players, and others, Bluetooth Hands-free devices have become a necessity to make our roads safer for everyone. Legislation will soon outlaw the use of hand held devices while operating a motor vehicle. Our sales and install staff are trained and ready to provide hands free solutions for all vehicles and all cellular phones*.
FutureFuture plan's for Autotemp include expansion into northwest Calgary, North Edmonton and a second store in South Red Deer.
